Aspire V5 552G touch screen non functional

Hi,

I just recently purchased an Aspire V5-552G-X412, but I have not yet been able to get the touch screen to work. The OS is Windows 8.

The System specs describe the device as having limited touch support with 5 touch points, and the retailer from which I purchased the computer listed it as a touchscreen model.

When looking at the 'Pen and Touch' settings window in the Hardware and Sound sub-menu, there was nothing beyond options for 'double-tap' and 'press-and-hold'. There was nothing there that would allow me to enable/disable finger as input device, or anything similar.

I have attempted to update the drivers for the Human Interface device (I have 2 HID-complient devices listed in the device manager, and I have tried for each). However, both claim to be up to date. I have even gone so far as to un-install them and then allow for the drivers to be re-installed upon the computer's restart. This had no effect. There was nothing there that mentioned 'touchscreen' in its description.

So far I have only been able to navigate and interact with icons using the touch pad.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The V5-552G is indeed a touch screen laptop. If you're having problems with the touch screen not working, then firstly, back up all data and reinstall Windows from the recovery partition. If this still doesn't help, then contact Acer support for your region who will arrange a repair if necessary.

I got the same problem. Staff where I bought mine said there's probably something wrong with a hardware if all the softwares and stuff are okay. Said its an IC (integrated circuit) for touch screen functions found on the top right side of your screen. I will be checking this if true at an Acer Service Center.

Some clarification for you:

Further to my original posting - Laptops with a P in their model number denote a touch screen. G denotes an additional graphics card.

My unit is Acer Aspire V5-471PG53314G50mass. So it has P and G. Most probably there's really something wrong with my touch screen.

A good way to find out if your machine is a touchscreen is to google the first 10 digits of the serial number using the following method :

NB.12345.ABC

Note the dots inbetween, google will be able to use this "part number" to indentify the model and it's specifications so you can confirm whether your computer is indeed a touchscreen version.

Yes, P and G signifies touch screen and a graphics card.

If there is no response from the touch screen, then in the first instance, reinstall Windows (remembering to back up first!). If that fails to make any difference, contact support.
