Compatibility for ATC-605

Hi,

I have couple of questions regarding the compatibility for the ATC-605 (http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/acer-acer-aspire-atc-605-desktop-pc-intel-core-i5-4440-1tb-hdd-8gb-ram-windows-8-atc-605-ef30/10269719.aspx?path=ea1c734d7f49bc0e4dfb5b44885ba4ecen02)

Thank you in advance. Please reply even if you may be able to answer any of them.

1. Possibility of upgrading Graphics Card with PSU of 600W or 750W. I have seen a related topic. However, according to Acer, the maximum PSU wattage is 300W. So, are common PSUs with higher wattage (such as 600/750W) compatible with this motherboard? Will it fit in this cabinet? What is the form-factor for this system? Will a higher wattage burn anything Smiley Sad ?

2. Are all common DDR3-1600 /PC3-12800 RAM compatible with this board?

3. Is virtualization supported? I am asking because the Intel H81 Chipset coming with this does not support it, it seems? What is the significance of Intel® H81 Chipset (Intel® DH82H81 PCH)?

4. Warranty policy for upgrading the desktop system. I would like know if upgrading memory voids warranty? I am guessing upgrading graphics card or PSU voids warranty? I am asking since I bought the system only recently Smiley Happy

Thanks,

Jerry

    Hi Jerry

    1. Yes, any PSU will suit this PC and will be fully compatible. The higher wattage will not burn anything, parts inside only take the power they need!

    2. Not necessarily. Best thing to do is run a scanner like Crucial's. This will tell you everything you need to know, plus will also make recommendations for you.

    3. According to Intel's website - the H81 chipset does not support virtualisation.

    4. Usually, opening up a PC whilst still under warranty will invalidate it. Check your warranty guide for any exceptions or contact Acer support to see if they can advise.

Thanks so much finlux!!! You are the best. I am having searching all along for these answers. One wierd thing though, though the chipset is H81, I am able to run virtualbox without much issues and motherboard itself says virtualization "enabled"... which is good news .. but I do not properly understand the reason. Perhaps I need to do a little research.

    Happy New Year!
