Recovery Disks Fails

I own an Acer Aspire Timeline X 1830T-3425. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I bought a new 1TB internal harddrive because the old 320GB one is full and also has been making ticking noises for months, a sure sign it's time to replace the hard drive.

I removed the old HD, put the new one in and booted using the recovery disks using an external DVD drive.

Everything goes well until the first disk copy progress reaches 71% at which point it says

FAIL to copy file to HDD.

File: D:\Images\WOP000390OX0TC1344.SWM

I thought maybe the disk was damaged. I actually tried twice more.

The first time, I used a second set of recovery disks I made in case I lost the first. Same problem.

I then re-installed the old hard drive, created a new set of disks and tried again. Same problem.

I don't know what the problem is anymore nor what I can do to solve it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Edward

since you still have your original HDD that works you could try this.

1.with the new drive connected externally delete all partitions using diskmgmt.msc or similar.

2.either clone or make and image copy from old disk of PQservice restore partition and restore image to new drive at start of disk.

3.install new disk and as soon as you power up press alt+F10 to start a D2D recovery installation.

    hope this helps
