Using webcam for video chat

I have an Acer all-in-one Aspire 5600u running Windows 8, 64bit. I got it for my birthday in Septemeber. I remember checking out the camera but not sure about the Video. I tried to do a Skype chat with my Mom on Christmas day. I could see her but she could not see me. I launched Acer Crystal Eye and received the message unable to connect to webcam. I tried updating driver and it states already updated to the latest driver. We tried deleting and reinstalling the webcam and Crystal eye and still nothing. I tried connecting two different webcams that works fine on the other computers and still no video. The problem is I can see the other party but they cannot see me. I tried a couple of different Video chats and it's the same problem. The main application I'm trying to use is Skype. I even tried to use two earlier versions of skype but nothing. I'd appreciate any help I can get with this problem. Even if I can't use the built in webcam, I would at least like to be able to connect one and use it.

Can you see the webcam listed in Device Manager?

I'm concerned that you may simply have a configuration issue, if you're unable to see video on any of the webcams you've attempted to use.  Skype is supported by Microsoft, so you may want to give their technical area a look to see if this configuration issue is listed.

Yes, I can see the webcam in the Device manager. I even deleted it and reinstalled it. I tried to update the driver and was told lastest driver already installed. We tried another video chat program and had the same program. After trying the external cameras we came to the conclusion it's something with the computer itself. We connected the cameras to a laptop that is running windows 8 and they worked fine with the laptop.

So if there is no obvious issue with the hardware you are using, the logical assumption would be that it is a software issue.

I'm going to suggest that you restore the system to it's factory defaults by following the instructions here:

    Reloading your Acer Computer
