Is it really possible to upgrade Acer Aspire 5570Z to 4GB Ram, using soDIMM memory?

I'm new to this, and could use some help.  I just purchased then installed 2 -2GB doSIMM memory cards in my Acer Aspire 5570Z laptop, which the owner's manual said would work.  However, the laptop won't boot up with the expanded memory cards.  It will boot up again when I put the 2 -GB memory  cards back in.  OS is Vista 32bit.

What I'd like to do is upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 on this laptop, and will need a minimum of 4GB to do so.  Has anyone else tried to do this?  Any success?  HELP!

The information that I have for the system is:

     - Maximum memory up to 2GB for 32bit OS (with two 1GB SODIMM), 4G for 64bit OS (with two 2GB SODIMM).
