Aspire XC600 won't restart <3 hours

Bit of an odd one.

Computer refuses to restart unless you leave it for a while - try a start in approx 3 hours and it's fine.

During a restart, the power comes on but it does not reach the ACER spalsh screen. It just sits there powered up with a black screen. I've also noticed when it does actually start after the 3 hour wait I get a single beep. Within a failed restart no beep, just a black screen.

What I've tried

I've searched the ACER download section and found a BIOS update, enter the BIOS set to start into DOS via a USB hit F10 and I run into the won't start issue. When it does restart, it starts to windows and ignores the USB.

I've replaced the CMOS battery - didn't make any difference

I'm thinking I now have some hardware failure - what do you think?

System

Acer Aspire XC600 Desktop, Intel Core i5-3300 3GHz, 6GB RAM, 1TB HDD, DVDRW, Intel HD, WLAN, Wired Keyboard & Mouse, Windows 8 64bit

    Hi nsaints

Agreed - it sounds like a hardware issue, the power supply to be exact.

The XC600 is a small form factor PC, and the power supply is a smaller size than the ones for standard PC's. So, if your PC is still under warranty, contact Acer support for your region. If it is out of support, see you local PC dealer who may be able to locate a suitable supply for your PC.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on!

    Great!

I've used ebuyer - their customer service is very good!

    Small update: -

1 - EBUYER refered me straight to ACER.

2 - ACER then had me return the computer to factory to eliminate any of my software causing the issue.

3 - Once done I confirmed back it was still the same

4 - ACER have now arranged collection on Jan 2nd

Next update to the thread when I know what the issue was (I assume when a fixed computer is returned)

Strange how Ebuyer refered you to Acer, strictly speaking the contract is with them!

Oh well, at least it is being sorted now...

Agreed - must be some arrangement where ebuyer is just acting as a 'web store' presence for ACER?

I maybe of course talking rubbish as I haven't checked if ACER have a web store

Yeah, it could be contractual reasons.... or ebuyer shirking their responsibilities!

Not heard anything from ACER since they received the faulty PC two weeks ago. Slack moment at work so attempted to get a update via 'Live Chat'

The agent has just told me the processor was identified as faulty and they're awaiting a replacement

Bit rubbish their still waiting for the part after two weeks - anyway, not much I can do but wait a while longer

That's the first time I've heard of a processor failing - not impossible, but quite rare!

Did they give a hint on how long you have to wait?

He couldn't give me an estimate - I'll contact again in two weeks if I hear nothing

At least in the meantime I have a Dell laptop to use at home - However this is only 18months old (outside warranty) and has a failing hard drive.

Not having much luck am I!

    Aw! Smiley Sad

As long as the Dell lasts until you get your Acer back....!

So I chased ACER, and was told a different story in that the main board was replaced and not the processer, but things weren't right still when tested & ACER attempted to supply me with a replacement computer.

ACER couldn't find an equivilant model to replace mine and are now giving me a full refund on the original purchase price.

So never really gotten to the bottom of the issue I'm afraid, although as a customer I'm pleased to get a full refund

Oh - I replaced the HDD in the DEll myself sourcing the part from Amazon and saved a fortune

Thanks for keeping us informed. I'm surprised they just didn't offer you a deal on a different machine, though!

But at least things are now sorted.
