Accessing the bios setup

jlanejlane Posts: 2Member

I have an AcerAspire V7 /571P laptop that came with Windows 8 installed and \i have updated to Windows 8.1.

\i am trying to get to the bios setup screen but pressing F2 when powering up, which the User Manual says is the method to do this, does not work.

Can anyone help me to get into the bios setup?

    Hi jlane

There is a little trick you can try:

    1. Run Command Prompt as admin, by right clicking CMD, and selecting "Run as administrator"

    2. Type bcdedit /set {bootmgr} displaybootmenu yes

    3. Type bcdedit /timeout 2

When you next boot your PC, you will get an extra menu (called the Boot Menu).  Pressing F2, just the once, will now let you access BIOS. You can also use it to access Safe mode etc, by pressing F8, again, just the once.

It adds 2 seconds to boot time, but it is worth the wait to have easy access to BIOS & Safe mode. You could change the "/timeout 2" to 1 or make it longer by increasing the number, should you want to.

    Hope this helps!

Once you hit the boot configuration data, you are past the window for entering UEFI/BIOS.

There is a method for restarting the system and going into UEFI, for which we provide this article, with a video:

Accessing the UEFI (BIOS) setup on a Windows 8 system

    Hi Tommy

This is what I use on my Windows 8 E1-531 laptop. Perhaps this doesn't work on all models?

It doesn't work on the Aspire S3-391 I just tested it on, although the instructions I linked work under all of our systems.

So, it could be that it is system specific ... thanks for posting it.

Unfortunately I used this method to get into the bios setup and changed the boot method from UEFI to Legacy boot so that I could get a boot menu on startup to boot from a DVD, From then on I was unable to boot the laptop at all. F2 still did not work and F12 did not get to the boot selection screen and it will not boot to windows now.

I gave up on it and returned it to the store for a refund and then bought a MacBook Pro instead of the Windows 8 machine.

I am not impressed with Windows 8 and prefer the Apple OS.

    Thanks anyway.
