Hi

This is the second one of these I've had. The first one was pretty ok speed-wise but unfortunately it died and I had to take it back to Comet and get this replacement one. It is appallingly slow. Switch tabs on t'internet and it's up to a minute before the cursor appears and you can click in to put in a new URL. Switch from word to Excel - it takes ages. Everything takes absolutely AGEEEEEEEES! It is so slow it's almost unusable.

It has an Intel Atom CPU N2600 1.6Ghz with 1Gb of RAM.

Should it be this slow???

What can I do to improve it????

Thank you - I'm doing an online distance learning course at the minute and it's driving me utterly barmy. Smiley Mad

    Good day

Test your HDD and memory using the seatools or other reliable HDD test software that you might know. Memory i suggest you test with memtest86. If the hardware passes, then you need to scan for virus, mailware, spyware etc. If your machine is not infected, then reload the machine to factory settings. If you reload to factory settings and its still extremely slow, then take the machine to the repair centre for mainboard replacement.

If you want to beef the machine up, I suggest that you upgrade the ram to 2Gig and change your HDD to a Solid State Drive. Once you change to SSD, you can match most of other computers proccesing speed and speed amongst your work will be about 4x better.

    Regards,

    Hi,

My Acer was very slow until I removed all the bloatware, that means all the Acer games etc, and also Norton, Ebay etc. Which are first installed with the computer. After removing this mine was running quite nicely.

Getting more RAM is almost essential, as Freeza suggested.

Also check out browser add-ons...before disabling some of these my machine was a little slow...some add-ons sneakily appear when you download certain programs too and you`re not aware they`re there...start button...tyoe in manage browser add-ons...open it up and hit edit add-ons...disable any that are using amounts of time or you don`t want or need.

I've now added 4GB to my Acer, and the performance is significantly better.
