Does anyone know how to add (photo) contacts to the home screen for any of the above modes? I am able to add direct dial widgets on the default Android home screen but not for basic or senior modes :-(

    Sorry i misunderstood your question

Ok,  i found the way to add speed dials/quick dials

select Senior or Basic mode from quick settings, on the bottom you will have some tiles with avatar inside.

    in the right bottom you will notice a settings tile (gear), tap on that tile and insert the PIN requested (it's the pin you choosed for the quick modes);

on the next screen on the top left, you will see a tile called "Speed/P...", tap on that and it will appear a list of empty strings with a + on the right side, tap on the + and add the contact you need as Speed dial or direct dial.

At the end of adding speed contacts, press back button until you will return to your basic/senior screen.

hope you understand what to do. Smiley Very Happy

Thanks for your quick reply. Doesn't make sense as there are blank tiles/buttons on those home screens which are meant to be quick/direct dial contacts?

    Hi...

I was exploring the Senior quickmode, and wonder if anyone can help me with these.

    1) What does the icon with 3-moving-envelopes do? (Right at the bottom, between the Phone icon and the Gear icon)

    2) Can the first 2 rows of icons (Message, FM, Weather, Magnify, Contacts, Clock) be customized to launch different things?

    3) Can I disable the slide left (to go to Gallery), and slide right (to go Camera) ?

    4) Also, when receiving an incoming call, can it be set to an easier touch-to-answer instead of having to slide-to-the-right to answer. For seniors, touching can be easier than sliding is certain direction.

    Appreciate any answers.

it's a "call me back" message, i think it will be usefull if a senior need a quick help and this button can send a quick message to the "speed dial" contacts.

you need a long tap to send messagges (SMS)

No or at least i never found how to do it.

    No

Good suggestion but need to change the default phone application, not available at the moment.

Thanks for explaining what the 3-moving-envelopes do.  Smiley Happy   (kudos!)

But too bad the other three features could not be done.  Smiley Sad

Now it explains why the "Please call me back" message was received by contacts in the speed dial!

However, I don't remember doing a "long tap" on that button.

But I did test "slamming" the active cover of the phone fairly vigorously, for testing purposes, and noticed that at times, the screen appeared to be touched or slide-over so that when you lift up the active cover again, you will see that the display has turned away from the home screen. I am a little concerned about this unintentional activity. Has this been reported before?

    Thank you.

i think no one reported the "slamming" issue but maybe is something related to a trigger delay about the hall sensor, touchscreen is way more fast and sensible.

    Hi IonFly,

    What is the "hall sensor"?

Ok, there is actually no need to "slam" the cover to get the unintentional touching of the screen.

Just gentle closing of the active cover, with left thumb over it, in quick succession, say about once every second.

    That will reproduce the problem.

There is definitely a fault there with unintentional touching of the screen happening.

If I may hazard a guess, perhaps the active cover is more conductive than what it should be?

hall sensor is a part of the proximity sensor. Smiley Very Happy

probably it's not so quick to shutdown the touchscreen, by the way i agree, the cover is too conductive.

Ok, this is weird ... I now discovered that the touchscreen on the Z3S can respond to a firm press with a non-finger, e.g. one end of a plastic pen! This would explain why closing the active cover firmly with a thumb over it can trigger a "touch" through the cover.

So, looks like the Z3S screen can respond to firm pointed presses too, apart from skin contact.

If that is the case then it is not appropraite to pair it with the flip cover that comes with it.

Would you be able to confirm this?

There is no clear spec from acer's website on what technology is used for the touchscreen.

If it is purely capacitive type, I think it would not have responded to physical presses, right?

I have another smartphone (HTC), and it does NOT react to the same plastic pen poking at it. (As expected.)

nope, my touchscreen doesn't react with pens in my house.
