technical support telling me to buy CD drive to repair new w510

So I purchased a w510 two days ago and there was a problem during a windows update. basically the pc will not boot and goes into autorepair mode but I can't choose either the "restore" or "cancel" option. it just freezes.

so i called acer technical support and they told me i should boot from the recovery disk. I told them i didnt have an external cd drive and i asked if there was any way i can get the info on the cds to a usb flash drive which i own. he told me that was not possible. i asked if i could send the pc in to get it restored since its obviously under warranty. he said it was not possible. he said the one and only option was to buy an external cd drive so i could repair the acer pc i purchased 2 days ago.

surely, this it not the one and only option is it?

No, if you have a desktop PC you can try using a program like ISOBURN to create an ISO file of the disks (Only the System DVD is bootable), then use the Microsoft ISO to USB tool to create a bootable Flash drive.

Whether that works or not, I do not know. Will say you need either a powered USB hub or a powered DVD drive, the W510 USB is not powerful enough to be reliable with a USB CD Drive.

Sorry that won't work since Acer in their infinite wisdow has decided to make it impossible to turn UEFI off despite being a violation of the standard. Even though I used the Microsoft tool to create the bootable flash drive and even though it works fine in my Aspire netbook, the W510 refuses to aknowlege the presence of the flash drive.
