Place to begin is to follow the instructions on page 83 (BIOS Utility) of the W510 user's manual (downloadable from ACER support) to enter the BIOS Setup.

Make sure the F12 access is enabled.

If you have the boot DVD and a USB player enable the CD/DVD Rom as the first boot device otherwise you will need to put on a flash drive or microSD Card.

Put the SYSTEM DVD disk in the drive & boot

If everything works properly you should be able to run REPAIR.

His location is in France so we don't have recovery dvd in the French package, only the recovery partition on the hard drive but he dosen't know how to access and boot on it.

I suspect there is going to be a major revision of the BIOS firmware soon. Either that or ACER is going to abandon the W510. About the only option today seems to be to purchase the Windows 8 Pro upgrade.

Of course here we only see the problems. Has anyone successfully restored/reinstalled the original Acer Windows 8 ? If so, how did you do it please ?
