Reset bios passwords, school district. Students are setting bios passwords. HELP!!

Good morning,

I am one of the support tech's for the Milford school district, located in Milford, Ohio.   I support 4 of the elementary schools.

Our problem: We have about 300 of the Acer Extenza 4630z's laptops.  Our students are beginning to go into the bios and create passwords.  Acer want us to send the laptops in to them to get the password removed, which we understand.

But at the cost of about 100 per laptop it will get to be pretty expensive to send to them.  Just in the last week we had the 2 passwords set, in my office I have 2 from the end of last year.

I have tried the following:

     1.  Removing the round battery seen after taking the main battery out, no luck.

     2.  Removing the bottom of the laptop to get to the motherboard and look for the reset button, no luck.

Does anyone out there know a way to reset the bios by jumping pins or shorting soldering tabs.  Would like to get these units back in use.  Issue becomes as more are set before we as a district can set one it will get to be very expensive.

We are on Christmas break until January 3, any help would be appreciated.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Unfortunately, there's not anything that we can say on how to remove BIOS passwords.

I would suggest however, that you set a BIOS password for the school district on all these units, so that students are unable to access the BIOS and cause these issues in the future.  There should be little reason for them to need BIOS access on school supplied systems.
