Netbook (Aspire One) battery problem

Hi All

I am looking for guidance on an issue being experienced.  At times, the battery will charge (although very slowly) but it switches to battery for a brief period and then back to charging for a period (AC Adapter period is longer than the battery period).  The battery light goes out, windows shows it has switched to battery, this will be for a few seconds, then it will go back to AC Adapter.  It will run on AC adapter for a minute to two minutes or so then back to battery, this is how it proceeds.  The netbook will run on AC Adapter fine, as the battery has been removed and the connection is fine.  It will also run on battery fine.  I have tried resetting, uninstalled/installed the windows drivers (although it does the same while being in the BIOS), etc.  When I remove the battery, and then put it back in and power with the AC adapter, the battery light will flash on and off and the battery wont charge.  I suspect the battery is the issue but wondered if there is something I have overlooked.  There doesn't seem to be an acer diagnostic tool to test the battery which would have been great.

Thanks in advance

That is rather puzzling.  It works on adapter alone with no issue.  It works on battery alone with no issue.

However, with battery in and on AC adapter, you get blinking charge/no charge.

Can you please provide me with the complete model number?

I'll see if there's anything else I can figure out.

    Hi Tommy

Well it was a bit puzzling but i think i found the issue, which may help other people experiencing the same issue.

I noticed the netbook was a bit hot so i bkew out the netbook case vents.  After doing this and allowing the netbook to cool down.  Guess what?  the ac power stayed connected without it switching to battery.  I am still testing to see if the issue is resolved but so far so good.  I guess the heat or something the heat was doing, caused the issue.

However, the battery is still rather slow at charging but at least the constant alternating between ac and battery seems to be resolved.  It could be the battery is still on its way out also.

I will post an update if different.

For your information:  model AOD260 aspire one

    Regards

    Update

The problem resurfaced so I dont think it is related to the heat issue.  I still think it is a battery issue.  It seems to start switching when the battery reaches about 64% charge.  I think I have only got to about 65% charge with this problem.  When it switched I removed the AC adapter and the battery power dropped to about 51% very quickly.  When I plugged AC adapter back in, it was okay again.  I was hoping to fully charge and then drain battery to recalibrate but I don't think this will possible to get this battery to 100% or close to it.  If anyway has any more things to try, then please post but I think the battery is failing.  I have just removed the AC adapter and the battery was at 62% but dropped to 48% in about 12 minutes and the netbook isn't doing anything battery power consuming.

Based on what you've posted, I would agree that it certainly sounds like you're having an issue with the battery maintaining a charge.  It may be worth contacting technical support in your region if the system is still under warranty.
