ASPIRE V5-573G Keyboard + Touchpad not working and takes 30+ minutes to get past ACER splash screen

Hello,

A rather strange problem occurred last week on my ACER ASPIRE V5-573G laptop that I purchased less than 2 months ago.

After restarting my laptop, the keyboard and touchpad stopped working. I decided to restart it another time to check if it was temporary. However, things became worst as it took 20 to 40 minutes for it to boot past the Acer splash screen, plus the keyboard and touchpad still didn't work after getting into Windows 8. There was no lag or any noticable decrease in performance when I was in Windows 8.

I've performed these actions and the both issues were NOT fixed:

1. Did a System Restore.

2. Scanned for malware, but none was detected

3. Reinstalled the Synaptics Touchpad driver but it didn't work. (The Synaptics Touchpad driver had a Code 10 error and a I/O time-out period expired error)

4. Did a Factory Reset twice back to default settings, but nothing was fixed.

In addition to these actions, I found out that the keyboard did not even work in Safe Mode and the BIOS configuration menu. Strangely, the Fn+F6 and Fn+F9 combinations which are used to black out the screen and light up the key board still worked.

I would like to know from the experienced users on this forum whether this is a hardware problem or a possible BIOS malware issue, and if there is any solution for this problem. Thank you in advance!

It sounds like a hardware issue with the keyboard.

Have you attempted to use an external keyboard to see if that works properly?

We would suggest contacting technical support in your region for further assistance with this issue.

Thanks for your reply, Acer-Tommy. Smiley Happy

Sadly, I don't have a USB keyboard with me. However, I do have a USB mouse and it is still working despite the Synaptics touchpad has failed to start. The problem seems to be only with the Synaptics Touchpad driver, since the Keyboard driver isn't having any problems in Device Manager.

What about the 30 to 40 minutes slow boot up? Are there any explanations for that? I'm quite puzzled since most people either experience the keyboard problem or the slow boot problem seperately.

I would try booting into Safe Mode first, to see if it's something loading in Windows.

If you can get into Windows Safe Mode relatively quickly, it may be a good idea to reload the operating system.

It takes the same amount of time to load into Safe Mode too. The key board doesn't work there as well..

That is not a good sign.  It could be related to the hard drive, or possibly something on the motherboard.

Best suggestion I can make at this point is to contact your local Acer service center for options.

Ok. I had the same problem to fix it you need take your ram out for a minute  and when insert it back. And its gonna loud fast again.(and reninstall windows or else after next reboot the problem can repeat it's propably some virus or ram qualaty is **bleep**ty and its stuck alot so you can try replece ram ) Keybord and touchpad stops working on this laptop alot. The best is to not install anydrivers after freash installation of windows only main ones like video and audio.
