Is it possible to do a System Restore from cmd prompt? Black screen with F8 & windows launch.

8730G-6681 Laptop. Trying to solve black screen. At Windows launch the Win 7 logo displays, then goes to "Repair Windows / Launch Windows Normally" screen. Windows repair fails. Can't get to "Safe Mode", launches to black screen. Reset Bios to factory defaults. Thinking this a virus, I'm looking to restore to Original System Configuration. Tried "Alt+F10" and goes straight to Windows Repair screen which fails again. Can the system restore (to original system configuration) be launched from the cmd prompt?

    Good day

Only if the computer could atleast boot into Safe mode, you could try to:

    1. Turn your computer on and hold down the "F8" key as the computer boots up to bring you to the Windows Boot menu.

    2. Press on the arrow keys to go to the option that reads "Safe Mode With Command Prompt". Highlight the option and press the "Enter" key.

    3. Log into your system under the administrator if the system asks for administrator clearance. This will come in the form of a login window like you would see in the "Welcome" screen on your computer.

    4. Use your keyboard to type "%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe" into the command prompt that appears after you log in.

    5. Press "Enter" to initiate the Windows System Restore application and follow the prompts to restore your computer.

NB: Also do a HDD test using seatools:http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/
