6 month old Aspire S3. Windows 8.1 Preview...

Booting up - I get the Acer logo and then black screen with mouse pointer (that works) but nothing more. Tried safe boot with F8 - no luck. I can get into Bios on F2..

Has anyone seen this and solved ?

Many thanks Nick

    Hi nickm

I think the best option here is to reinstall Windows from your recovery partition or disks. The Preview edition of 8.1 expires in January 2014 anyway!

If 8.1 worked well on your model, you can upgrade to the official "final" edition, after you've reinstalled Windows 8.0 .

Many thanks - is there a recovery partition by default ? (I didn't change anything in this aspect from manufacturing build). I can boot into BIOS but not sure which would be a recovery partition..

    Can see:

    1. Windows Boot Manager

    2. HDD1

    3. Network Boot-IPV4

    4. USB HDD

    5. USB CDROM

    6. Network Book-IPV6

So clearly not 2,4,5 or 6. HDD1 implies only a single partition - so looks like I need isntall build on CD or USB ??

The recovery partition is hidden, and the best way to access it is to press ALT & F10 on startup as soon ad you see the Acer logo.

This will start the recovery process.
