Can't combine Fn + Strg modifier keys on German W510 keyboard dock

Sorry, I don't have a lot of experience working with non-desktop keyboards, but shouldn't these modifiers stack? As it is, I can't enter Ctrl-Home to go to the beginning of a document, for example. For Home, I need to press Fn-LeftArrow, so I figured if I hold down Ctrl at the same time, that should do the trick. However, with my dock, nothing happens! It's the same for End or PgUp. Both keys (Fn and Strg) work fine when pressed independently, but they don't seem to work in unison. I'm using the German version of the W510. Is there a special trick involved? Please help. Thanks.

BTW, it's the same thing with the Shift key, so I can't, for example, press Fn+Shift+Left to select text from the cursor position to the beginning of the line. Aaaargh. Any solution?
