S7-392 Win 8.1 Bluetooth Issues

Really like my new S7... except for Acer customer service and issues w/ bluetooth crashing the computer. No issues w/8.0, but updated to 8.1 and had crashes. Started w/ occasional issues and progressed. So bad I couldn't start my computer - stuck in blue screen-restart-blue screen-restart-blue screen cycle. Finally sent it back (at my mailing cost...come on Acer, it's a expensive computer and you can't spring for postage?). Acer Tech Service turned it around in three days, kudos. Turns out all they did was restore the factory image and send it back. So I updated to 8.1 again and the trouble started. Microsoft was and is very helpful about this. (Yes, that Microsoft!)

I dug into the Event Logs and found the issues are all related to Bluetooth conflicts. As soon as I disabled Bluetooth, no more problems.

So, Acer, here's my complaint... why didn't you look at the Event Logs and let me know the problem was 8.1/Bluetooth conflicts and I'd have the same problems as soon as I updated to 8.1? My S7 is running an Intel Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 + HS Adapter with a 3.0.1304.338 driver date 4/14/2013. There is no update at Intel's website. Am I the only one with this problem? And Acer won't help because it's a software issue. Come on, without customers providing input so you can deal with Intel, your machines wouldn't sell because of unresolved problems. We're the reason you are in business. At least act like we matter...

Any work-around so I can use my Bluetooth service for my Microsoft Bluetooth mouse and Bose Soundlink Mini? I'd gladly use a nano-transmitter but it takes up one of two USB ports. Oh yeah, there's Acer's proprietary port...  You can use it with an adapter that Acer charges $45 for...  swell. I went ahead and bought one.

But I do like the S7....

Thanks for the quick response. I've applied the fixes you mentioned by using the links. I'm hesitant to enable Bluetooth until I see if my system is stable without BT. I'll let you know in a couple days if I encounter any further issues. In the meantime, thanks again...

Sharanji - I've tried the fixes, but they have not solved the problems. I've reloaded Windows 8, applied all the updates, migrated to Windows 8.1, applied all the updates, updated the bluetooth driver and wireless driver you provided and I still have intermittant issues where both drop out. Given the lack of USB ports, I really want to use my BT feature and save slots. Would it be helpful to view the event logs?

I've also rolled back the drivers and then re-installed them. This seems to "solve" the problem for a bit, but then the connectivity issues return slowly.

Sure appreciate any further help you can give.

I have an Aspire M5-481PT on Windows 8.1 x 64 that has worked very well since I got it in October 2012.  I've been using a Microsoft 3ZH-00001 Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 and, other than occasional connectivity issues, it has worked well.  However, this weekend, I experienced bad connectivity issues.  Worse, when I turned the device off and back on to restore connectivity, it caused a blue screen error with a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE message.  Each time, the computer  would start up again but this causes significant delays.   I tried to check the even log, but I'm not tecchy enough to figure out what exactly they were trying to tell me.  The bluetooth driver was up to date, but the bluetooth connectivity issues that happen at the same time as the blue screen, coupled with the "power" messages, tells me that there is some issue there.  Geek Squad remoted into my computer and ran a tune up, but the problem reappeared.  Has anyone else experienced and resolved this issue?   I was told by someone at Geek Squad that the best solution may be to uninstall and reinstall the driver, but I'm hesitant to use the bluetooth mouse until I'm more sure that the problem is resolved and won't create other issues.  Thanks!

I have been ignored by Acer... I finally gave up and am not using Bluetooth. What's strange to me is that before I gave up, if the BT disconnected, I could go to the BT settings, turn BT off and then back on and it would reconnect for awhile. On occasion though, BT settings would disappear and then I was in a jam because the machine would no longer recognize the BT at all. I'd restart or shutdown several times before BT would show up again.

    All the problem

s are associated with 8.1 in my opinion and Acer kicks the can down the road by not helping customers solve these issues... Particularly frustrating that Acer forces a proprietary connection on you so it really limits the expensive machine and you have to buy a $50 connector from them to make it useful, too.

    Good luck.

Thanks - I'm not sure what you mean by the proprietary port.   While my computer was under warranty, Acer was always good about responding quickly and accurately.   I've been very happy with the machine and with Windows 8.1, but bluetooth connectivity withthe mouse has always been very spotty.   I never had a blue screen on the computer until this weekend, so that points to a bigger concern than the hassle of turning the mouse on and off.

I've uninstalled the bluetooth drivers and rebooted, and can get my Android smartphone to pair with the laptop.  However, I can't send files to the laptop, and when I check the list of bluetooth devices the smartphone is no longer listed (even though the laptop is listed as a paired device on my phone).  When I install the drivers for Win 8.1 from Acer's website, bluetooth can't even recognize the phone, even though the driver numbers would indicate an even later date.  And, the drivers on Acer's website have no installation instructions.  There are 3 folders including 1 calleded "Install CD" that has a setup file.   I assume that's what I use, but there are no instructions and I'm not sure.  Be nice of someone from Acer could weigh in with a fix for this problem.

I think I fixed the problem - I had orginally just modified the drivers with latest Acer drivers, using the setup file I referred to above.  This time, I uninstalled the drivers, used the Acer setup file to uninstall the program, restarted, and used the latest Acer drive to install the program.  Seems to be working fine - for now.

Sounds as if you got it. I'll try it. I get uninstalling the drivers by going to Devices and doing uninstall. But, I don't understand the "Acer setup File" to uninstall the program... Could you tell me where the Acer setup file is and what program you ununstalled, please? Thanks for investing a few minutes to reply. I sure look forward to having my BT work.

The Acer proprietary port is a special USB-like port in the place of a USB. It's a different plugin than USB so you have to buy an adapter. My machine has no monitor connector and the adapter has an ethernet connection, VGA connection, and a couple USBs.

    Thanks for the update.

I go to Acer Service & Support at http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support -

then click Drivers and Manuals -

then I enter my SNID (you can also enter your S/N, product model, or search from a list) -

Under Operating System I click the drop down list for my OS -

the drives then appear under the "Drivers" tab.

After upgrading to W8.1 I installed all of them - I did something wrong the first time, but was still under warranty and Acer's chat support got me straightened out.  They're large files and take awhile to download, so I might have skipped the Bluetooth, or just insalled them incorrectly the first time.

    Good luck!

    Sharanji,

I'm having the same issues as the OP. I have downloaded the newer drivers, and can see the bluetooth in the device list. But what is the name of the wi-fi device?  Is it "Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260" ?  Also, the driver downloads contain a lot of different files, which one do I point the installer to? Better yet, is there a step-by-step instruction for updating drivers? Thanks
