I am trying to help my friend remove win8 and install Ubuntu linux. We can't even use a USB drive with linux installed because the BIOS will not recognize it as bootable.

What gives? is there a machine like the Aspire One that is sold with Linux in mind or do we need to order another brand machine to continue useing Linux.

are you pressing f12 to enter the boot menu? there you can choose to boot from the optical drive. i also am a linux user on my acer, i have it set up to dual boot with windows 7 (win 7 being on a very small partition and linux having the majority). the version of linux i am using is linux mint 14 as it is slightly more user friendly than ubuntu (less java issues etc.) if you need assistance feel free to email me
