Purchased new in Sept at office Depot with Windows 8.

Micro USB worked for a week they could not connect to anything.

Have tried to connect with 3 different cables & 3 different laptops

I couldn't get it to work.

Sent it back to Acer - they said it was working fine & sent it back to me.

The IT dept at my office could not get it to work.

Sent it back to Acer for a second time - they said it was working fine and sent it back to me.

Took it to Office Depot and they could not get it to work & they called Acer. Reply was send it in and all would be fixed.

So we sent it back to Acer for a third time.

I Received it Friday and again they say it was tested and passed all their tests.

Unfortunately I still can't connect it to anything via Micro USB port.

Is there something I'm missing like a magic button to push?

Any help or explanation why its not working would be appreciated.

When you say "three different laptops" it sould like you are expecting to do a data transfer as with an iPad or Android tablet. Bottom line is that you can't without a special cable. The W3 is a Windows tablet and designed to operate as a stand alone with accessories and use network shares or ad hoc to connect to another PC.

It's probably a good idea to actually tell us what you are attempting to connect to the port.

Are you getting any error message?

Are you seeing any changes in Device Manager when you attempt to connect something?

Not trying to connect them per se, just use the "plug & play" to transfer files between my tablet & laptop. Pics from my tablet & spreadsheets from my laptop. Not trying to create a network.

I refer to 3 laptops to make sure there are no problems at the laptop end, as in trying 3 different cables to eliminate any other source of problems.

Read the link. You cannot just connect a USB cable between two windows boxes and be able to transfer files.

I'm using a usb cable with a "micro" end to plug into the tablet port and normal USB plug on the other end.

Its the same cable I use to update my daughters music on her non Acer tablet.

All I'm trying to do is transfer files like pics from the W3 and large word documents to my tablet so I can read while travelling.

I get no error messages. Device Manager shows nothing. Neither laptop or tablet seem to recognize a cable is plugged in

That is correct. With a Windows machine (tablt, laptop or desktop) you will need a special cable (call an Easy Transfer Cable when first introduced when Vista was released). It is much easier to set things up to transfer over your wireless network, or with a wired connection, through your router. Join each computer to a Homegroup and they will be able to share files with very little hassle.

The W3 can't be conected to another computer via usb or any device that has a female usb port. You need an adaptor that has the micro usb to full size female usb connector ( check out C&E CNE16187 Micro USB OTG to USB 2.0 Adapter from amazon ). you can then hook up the same devices you would on your laptop ie. flash drive, nook, ipod etc. and use these to transfer files.
