My acer laptop model number is V5-573PG. I know from the brochure it says i have a 3.0 USB port but which one is it?  There's 3 USB ports - left, behind, and right. How do i find out which USB port is the 3.0 one?

The USB 3.0 port is coloured blue.

Tofu, as Alan pointed out, it is probably painted blue. If not, it will have a logo with the number 3 on it. If all else fails, look carefully at your USB ports. The one with four holes in it is USB3.

Haha never thought to check the color of the ports. Yes the back one is colored blue. Thanks!

An addditional question is if its usb 3.0, does it enable faster charging for my note 3 when i have the original cable plugged into it?

  • Well, you could be forgiven for thinking USB 3.0 is USB 3.0! Unfortunately, things are rarely that simple and USB 3.0 is no exception.

USB 3.0 can be low power (150mA), high power (900mA) or 'Battery Charger Spec' (1500mA). (Incidentally, USB 3.1 will allow 2000mA and optionally 5000mA.) Check your user's manual and see if it mentions 'power off charging' (the symbol is also different for these. It consists of the letters 'USB' and a battery.)

Note that you cannot draw 1500mA and pass data concurrently. In fact, I'm of the mind that it will only provide 1500mA when the laptop is switched off hence 'power off' charging. If it only shows the normal USB symbol, then you have the low or high power variant. I'm afraid I can't tell you which.
