T272HL integrated speaker compatible with Win8.1?

With my T272HL the display is working perfectly connected over HDMI from a Windows 8.1 Pro x64 system, however I cannot get the audio to play on the integrated monitor speakers at all.  I plugged the audio cable in to a separate set of speakers to confirm the audio was working.

I had the retailer replace the monitor once. With the replacement montitor I had the same problem so tried it on a second machine running Win7 - the audio played over the HDMI cable and played on the monitor speakers.

How can I get the audio to play from a Win8.1 machine to the integrated speakers on the T272HL?

You could try the below steps to fix this issue.

Press and hold the Windows key and then press the X key. Click Control Panel.

    Click on 'Hardware and Sound'.

Click Sound. A new window will open.

Click Playback tab and select the 'HDMI Digital audio device' and click "SetDefault"

((If you don't see the 'HDMI Digital audio device' option under Playback tab, right click on the empty area under this tab and select 'Show all disabled devices')) and then click "SetDefault".

    Click Apply and Ok

Unfortunately even thougth the display is connected via HDMI, the device "Digital Audio (HDMI)" shows as "Not plugged in" so it cannot be set as default.

I too am having problems with my integrated speakers on my T272HL monitor with windows 8.1 Pro.  Touchscreen works fine, however my speakers on the monitor work rarely.  The driver for the speakers come and go.  I reinstall and update drivers and it works for a while then does not work and then I cannot access the driver via the sound icon in the control panel.  Any ideas on what is going on here???
