NO SIGNAL WARNING/ BLACK MONITOR

MY ACER ASPIRE M5640  WONT REDOGNIZE OR POWER UP MY MONITOR. I GET A NO SIGNAL WARNING WINDOW. THE LIGHT ON THE MONITOR SHOWS GREEN FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS THEN BLINKS BACK TO AMBER AND A BLACK SCREEN. CONNECTIONS ARE TIGHT. ALL LOOKS FINE ONLT NO PCTO MONITOR SIGNAL. I NEED A GEEKIER GEEK THAN ME PLS? NOTE: WINDOWS VISTA OP SYSTEM STILL.

    Funny thing, I just helped a friend of mine with her first comptuer. Turns out that she didn't know how to turn on the computer. If the computer tower is turned on and the monitor is turned on and everything looks fine, then I would check to see if that video card is ok. If you have another monitor around, go ahead and swap it out with this monitor and see if it comes on. If it does not, then it is most likely your video card that went out. If that works, then call tech support because most of the monitors out there have a 3 year warranty on them.

    Hello Rjgoodman,

     

    After looking at some of the specifications on the Acer Aspire 5640 desktop series we may have an answer to your issue. When looking at the back of the unit:

    1. Is the a VGA [blue in color] port at the top of the unit
    2. If we look downward [from the VGA port] in sequence we see the last plug in option is for audio ports.
    3. Below this on some models we have added a video card which has a white connector [DVI video port] and blue connector [VGA video port].
    4. When this card is installed this disables the on board video. If this is the case, please use this connection.
