Staying with the fight and searching for a remedy... I just came across this posting from Broadcom's support/forum site:

"Broadcom Advanced Control Suite (BACS4) Support - Windows Server 2012 R2/Windows 8.1"

Those customers installing Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows 8.1 should be aware that the most recently released version of BACS4 does not run correctly in these versions of Windows. Broadcom is aware of the problem and will address the issue in the next software release.

Adapters in the NetXtreme I family of devices will need to wait for the 16.2 software release (current release is 15.6) while devices in the NetXtreme II family of devices will need to wait for the T7.8 software release (current release is T7.6). I will update this post when the software is available on the Broadcom web site.

I WAS POSTED 3-WEEKS AGO, per the posting (but glad I just found it!), and that gives me pause for a couple of reasons:
1.  Does this particular driver have impact on the various Broadcom chipsets that many of the ACER PCs utilize?
2.  If so, is this information that (I ASSUME) ACER engineering has and they've not informed customer service personnel about the potential remedy for their users and the various implementations of the Broadcom Ethernet chipsets?
3.  Lastly ... DOES THIS OFFER SOME HOPE of a PERMANENT FIX?
Will look forward to the replies from ACER.  BTW - Your support for me has been excellent.  I hope this helps you and other users.  My Aspire M has been excellent over the past months ... but since 8.1 ... a headache!
Thank you!
