I have enabled the secure boot updated the bios to 2.17 the newest for this laptop and I have done a UEFI/Bios reset to default settings as ask for by Acer.

It is still there hase anyone got any ideas before I give this flying lessons.!!!!!!!!!!!

I started a thread but wrongly select the resolved button so here we go again.

    As per your previous thread:

First off, if you switch to Legacy mode you're not going to get any further, and you'll likely find that Windows won't load.

As for the boot issue, I've already fixed this on 6 units by doing a recovery to reinstall Windows 8 and then immediately installing the 8.1 update.

I've noticed that a lot of these machines will show the error message and then bring you to the login screen, where you can type your password but then can't get any further. If this is the case for you try out these steps. Note that your system will be wiped and you will lose any personal data on the device that hasn't been backed up elsewhere. The reset and reupdate fix should work as long as you're able to get into the advanced startup menu.

    Method 1: SHIFT + Restart

    1. Hold down either SHIFT key while tapping or clicking on Restart, available from any Power icon.

Tip: Power icons are available in Windows 8 from either the Settings charm or from the logon/lock screen.

    2. Wait while the Advanced Startup Options menu opens.

    3. Click on Troubleshooting and then reset.

    4. Wait for the process to finish.

    5. Do the update to 8.1

    Hi,

I did the reset back too windows 8, not only did I have a problem with the secureboot watermark I had a problem with the ports, I lost all connections to my external hardware and would not open any ports to them, after the reset back too 8 everything worked fine although I had done a mirror image backup a few days before, I loaded the image and everything was back to normal.

I think they can keep the 8.1 update.

    Thanks for your time.
