Is it possible to install NVIDIA Drivers for Geforce 710M without the useless Experience software?

Answers

  • Yes, I believe it is.

To be quite frank, I don't recall how I removed it or indeed whether I had the option to deselect it at install.

Certainly, I don't have it on any of my machines.

Geforce Experience is installed by default and it's impossible to remove it due stupid Acer driver customization (I use the VGA drivers provided by Acer).

An hidden user UpdatusUser with SYSTEM priviledges is also created and this may cause security issues to the whole OS

  • You can remove like this:

Right click the task bar and select 'Start Task Manager'.

Click the 'Services...' button in the bottom right of the task manager window.

In the 'Services' window, double click 'NVIDIA Update Service Daemon' This is the 'nvUpdatusService' service.

    Click 'Stop' on Service status.

    Set 'Startup type' to Disabled.

    Close services.

You can go one step further and remove the service completely if you wish:

Open a command prompt (right click and select 'Run as Administrator') and type the following line:

    sc delete nvUpdatusService

The service will be permanently deleted.

    Edit:

Sorry, forgot to deal with user account!

Again, open a command prompt (using 'Run as Administrator' as before) and type the following line:

    net user UpdatusUser /delete

I know these commands, but I would like to have a better installer from Acer where I can remove this useless and unsafe component with a single click

  • I believe the install behavior is likely determined by nVidia.

While perhaps not ideal, my removal suggestion detailed above should give you what you need with very little effort on your part.

Other than that, I can only suggest that you approach nVidia directly and see if they would provide the option to omit the updater feature in future releases.

In the original NVIDIA package you can uninstall the Geforce Experience/Updater, but in the ACER modified package you can't do it!
