Aspire E1-522 Windows 8.1 Wireless Encryption TKIP no longer available.

I have recently upgraded my Windows 8 - Aspire E1-522 to Windows 8.1 and now I can't connect to TKIP encrypted networks.

I have even attempted to manually create the wireless profile but does not give a TKIP option for encryption

I've tried installing the recent driver builds from Atheros directly to no avail.  From what I have read on the internet so far I fear that Windows 8.1 has actually removed TKIP as an encryption option.

This is required because my college uses TKIP with their wireless network.

The issue has been resolved without restoring system to 8.0.

Had to install Atheros drivers from build versions, not Acer or Microsoft versions.

After installation of drivers a reboot was required.

Note:  The option for TKIP is still not available but when connecting to the network it will automatically connect using TKIP encryption at authentaction.

Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) was only an interim protocol.

    "802.11mb Issues List v12" (excel). 20-Jan-2009. p. CID 98.

"The use of TKIP is deprecated. The TKIP algorithm is unsuitable for the purposes of this standard"

Given that it is a deprecated protocol as of 2009, it is not surprising that operating systems will begin to remove support for said protocol.

Under Windows 8.1, I'm seeing the following options:

    • No authentication (Open)
    • WEP
    • WPA2-Personal
    • WPA2-Enterprise
    • 802.1x

Unfortunately, my only suggestion for you would be to restore the system back to the factory shipping operating system and wait for the university to update their encryption protocols.
