Boot device select

The only way I could get a boot menu was to select legacy.  I set the stack CD, HDD.  If inserted, a CD will now boot.  Without a CD inserted, F12 then presents CD, HDD, and Ethernet.  I select HDD and get Ethernet.

Is a W8 HDD bootable in legacy?

I want to select CD or HDD for now, and USB later.

    hi...

Bootable media from previous versions of Windows may not be recognized in Windows 8. You can change the Boot Mode setting from UEFI to Legacy BIOS, and it should recognize the bootable device.

In Windows 8 HDD is not bootable in legacy mode. You need to boot HDD in UEFI mode.
