Hello folks

I have been trying to upgrade my Aspire E380 from XP to Win 7 Pro 64; along with doubling the RAM and fitting a 1TB HDD.  I have failed miserably!!  It gives me the impression that it cannot be upgraded, which seems rather odd.

Is this a valid upgrade, please for the E380?  It has XP media center installed from new (32 bit) but I need 64 bit and Win 7 for manipulating photographic images, so that I can install the latest programs.  I was wondering if anyone out there has tried to anything like this...?

    Hi Covkid1945

I have a feeling it might be the 1TB hard drive. In 2010/11 drive manufacturers changed hard drives from 512 byte sectors to the new 4 KB sectors. See here for details.

The Windows 7 disk needs to have SP1. If your disk is a pre Service Pack 1 then it will fail, however you can download an ISO image here, burn it to disk using an ISO burner like  Active@ ISO Burner.

It may also be that your motherboard cannot use a 1TB hard drive, some older models can't. To get around that, buy a smaller hard drive (320-500GB) use that as your C: drive, then use the 1TB as a data disk or as a backup drive (using a USB caddy).

    Hope this helps!
