Following Grombie's post I tried what was suggested but it didn't work. However after a few extra steps the watermark is now gone.

My system is a Aspire S3-391 with Windows 8 from the factory

    1. I updated the bios from the drivers page to 2.17 from 2.09

    2. I entered the bios and disabled the secureboot option

    3. I booted up the machine

    4. I restarted the machine and went into the bios again

    5. I enabled secureboot AND selected the factory default option as per grombie's post

    6. saved and exit the bios

    7. Watermark now gone

Hope this helps others. It seems Acer doesn't really care but then I suppose I bought this because it was the cheapest ultra slim notebook.

Thanks to forum members for the advice!

Thanks for the steps threeninety but sadly even updating my BIOS to 2.17 and following your steps exactly failed to rid the watermark from my desktop.

So back to Mr Acer. How about a patch to fix this for everyone?

Thanks Grombie!  This worked great for me and I tried many other solutions
