To whom it may concern :

I was given an Acer Aspire 5315-2698 laptop computer by my sister. She did not lend it to me. It is now mine. She gave it to me forever and ever.

My problem is I am having trouble proving my rights to the laptop computer, as the current legal owner.

Mainly the problem I am having is connecting to encrypted wireless networks for Internet usage. At home, I use the ISP of the name :  Clear, they are a WiMax (Wide Micro-wave Access) Internet Service, they are completely wireless. This old laptop is not enable to access the more modern Internet encryption protocols. Because of this I have to have my completely wireless modem plugged into this laptop's Ethernet plug. I was on the phone long into the night with a very helpful senior technician who was an employee of Clear WiMax, who finally found that the problem trying to to connect to Clear's wireless modem wirelessly (not plugging into the ethernet plug on their wireless modem) was that this old laptop needs the drivers for the wireless adapter card to be updated to accept these newer encryption protocols, so that I don't have my wireless modem unencrypted. I have tried my best to update all the drivers: but configuring them effectively has been my only problem. I am not asking for support in any other way. I just want to be able to actually be able to use the wireless network, wirelessly.

Hoping this meets you in the best of health and awaiting your replies with interest.

Sincerely,

Jesse

Specifications for the Aspire 5315 indicate that the wireless LAN adapter in the system is:

Acer InviLink 802.11b/g Wi-Fi CERTIFIED network connection, supporting Acer SignalUp wireless technology

This is not a WiMax capable card.  Updating a driver will not make it WiMax capable.

WiMax is actually the IEEE 802.16 specification and is an entirely different method of wireless communication.

It may be possible to find an adapter, like an ExpressCard/54, that will allow you to do WiMax with the notebook.
