Acer Iconia W3 810 power supply specifications

Output is 12V1.5A

Tip is + and ground is the outside.

Search the bay for similar products (model name) and they are much cheaper. There are cheaper car chargers that you can get the tip off from as well. It looks to be the same tip size as the Iconia A100 tab I had before... which is not too good a news since they're not the standard/common ones out there you'll find. I have a Radio Shack tip "G" if I remember correctly that fits it but it's still not as great fit as the OEM since the tip as a groove about midpoint that lets it click into the charging port.

And it's a little weird if you got your tablet without a charger from a store. I got mine with one inside... I would imagine it would be difficult to find a charger for the regular folk.

I don't think any W3 was intended to be sold without the included power supply. Was this an "open box" special ?

I too have not seen one that didn't have a power supply bundled with it.

That's really strange. It might be worthwhile to contact Acer support first since I would guess it's an anomaly. Don't think I've seen a laptop/tablet sold without a charger, even budget ones.

Acer support has been pretty good for me too... Nothing to lose man!

When I first viewed the attached jpg it showed the botton of the white label on the box with "Tablet and Adapter"

Later when I clicked on the link it showed the factory printing on the box.

On my box, the white label lists contents as Tablet and "Home Student Office 2008" but no mention of the AC adapter.

I just now looked at the factory printing on the box as shown in the revised jpg. I had to get a strong light and magnifying glass to see it because dark grey lettering on a medium gray woodgrain background is hardly even noticable, let alone readable. (I have better than 20/20 vision according to my optomolist just 3 weeks ago)

The printing on my box does indeed match your photo. The last line includes "The tablet and adapter are the only items included in this box."

That is a very deceptive statement in itself. What sort of adapter? Looking at various reviews on the web, some acer W3 810's include a USB adapter that allows you to connect standard USB drives. It is even mentioned in the instructions on the DVD for rebuilding the OS from a memory USB drive. Are they talking about the USB adapter or the AC adapter. (mine had neither)

We are not allowed to show the serial numbers or SNID but you are correct the white lable does not show anything about the adapter. I guess you are going to have to open a ticket with your model number and SNID (on the white label) to find out exactly what was supposed to be in the box. My Iconia_W3_810_1660 (NT.L1JAA.001) did include a 110-240v power supply with a USA 110v plug as mentioned above.

It does say that components may vary by model number however the first illustration (marked "1") in the included W3 pamphlet makes it clear it is supposed to be charged with a wall wart before use.

The downloadable User Manual does have this: "This product's AC adapter is equipped with a three-wire grounded plug." and "The power cord included with the system meets the requirements for use in the country/region where the system was purchased." page 6

So all I can say is that a W3 as packaged by Acer for sale in the US should include the a/c power adapter. I have never seen a portable tablet/netbook/notebook/laptople of any kind that did not.

I spent over 4 hours trying to get into any of the support options at Acer.

Side note here:

To access chat you have to enter ALL THREE of the following correctly.

A 22 digit ALPHA numeric number

A 11 digit numeric number

A Capcha to prove you are human.

So, I first had to find those numbers. They were not in any of the places the web site says they are or any of the FAQ's.

Of course, If you want to ask how to find then, you have to put them in first.

The site does mention them being on a card included with the tablet, but those turned out to be the MS software key.

Finally I looked at the printed white lable on the box, there are NINE different numbers that qualify as as either 11 or 22 digits. Trial and error finaly narrowed it down and I got past the "you have entered someting wrong" type messages. Finally I got a "Your product can not be registered, you have 292 days of remaining warrenty, If you believe this is an error upload a copy of your reciept."

I used my web cam to take a snapshot but that resulted in a file to big error. I shrunk and trimmed the photo, converted it to black and white, but it was stll to big. I found a program that would let me set the amount of jpeg compression and after increasing the amount of compression from 10 to 20, then 40 I finaly got a file with a setting of 80 that would upload. (While the large WALLMART logo could be read, the rest of the text was hardly readable.)

That finally got me into chat.

After explaining my problem I was treated to a series of random posts spaced exactly 15 seconds apart. You know the type, somehing like:

"Thank you bob for your kindly understanding while your problem I research."

He did say he would Fed Ex an AC adapter to me but it would take two to three days to process my warranty information. He then gave me a link to a form where I could enter all sorts of info including the store address and store number, my phone number, address, length of my #### and upload another photo of the reciept. I was assured that if there was a problem, they would call me.

Sorry I coulden't copy the entire chat and post it here, I was doing it on the tablet. I swear it lasted HOURS and I was batteing a dwindling battery when trying to copy the chat to skydrive and lost the battle.

So here I sit by the phone typing on my old Sony laptop running Vista, (no spell check), waiting for Fed Ex or a phone call.

That is a surprise, I gave up on the chat some time ago but then all you needed was the SNID (11 numeric digits, the fourth is a zero and found on the bottom edge in tiny print on a W3). It did seem the best way to get what you needed from Acer quickly.

I take it you could not just exchange where you bought it for one that had the adapter mentioned in their advt. For that matter do not even know if you are in the US. What is simple here is often difficult elsewhere though from your mention of the mart at the wall and rat shack it was kinda implied.

No, I coulden't. They are out of stock. Worse, they have never had a working one on display. Their display models were all dead.

I had decided to get one several months back but didn't because I never got my hands on a woring one. Two weeks ago I visited te store and it had been a couple months since they had removed te display model. This time they had a new display model but it was also dead, it would not charge with the adaper. I looked at the adapter and it was only 200ma. no brand name on it. I had read plenty of reviews and decidied to get mine even without being able to see an actual screen display. I had created a simlated screen and scaled it down to the W3 screen size. I still wasn't sure it would be practical and wanted to see the real thing. Turns out my worry about readability was unfounded, I am very happy with the readability, virtual keyboard, speed and usability of the W3.

If there is any complaint at all. it is with the documentation. Had there been a clear, accurate list of contenets, WITHOUT the "Actual contents many vary" cop out, I would not have lost the argument with the **** sales person about what is included. Even the "Adapter" word printed on the box leaves out the word "Power" or "AC" allowing the sales person to offer a USB adapter instead of a power brick.

Glad it finally worked out (or soon when the adapter is at the door... To be specific, the AC adapter that is ;-)). Man, next time a smack to the side of the salesman's head might help. No way in heck will a power adapter not be sold with laptops/tablets... Can not believe these guys.

Prolly all dead from using the rong power supply. Seems amazing they could even find anything that fit the socket - that 3mm OD/1.1mm ID is something of an oddball, I only found two sources and one was hanging on the wall at my local RS.

Glad you are on the right track now. Wonder if the reason they were all ded was because they were trying to charge with a 5v USB supply (W3/W510 need 12v).

Bought mine at Office Depot because a local one had it almost immediately on intro & even got for U$299.

Just really hope the W4 has a Z3740 and not a Z3740D, would hate to have to buy a Toshiba.

OK, now I have a new problem. I'm going to try to return it again.

HOW DO I REMOVE ALL MY PERSONAL INFORMATION?

I'll need to do it FAST as there is only 15% battery capacity.

I looked closer at a unboxing video and noticed a new W3 has a different plastic wrap around the tablet than what I had.

Also, there were some labels in the upper right corner that I didn't have.

That made me think I needed to look real close at the tablet itself.

What I found is that the silver back had a fairly large gap where it did not fit tight against the white trim surrounding the screen. I pressed it down and it did not stay down. Then I lifted it a little and saw that two of the little plastic tabs had a a hook on them and two others appeared broken. I believe this W3 has been repaired and was not new. This time I am going to the store manager if the **** sales guy does not give me a refund or find me a replacement.

The problem is, I don't want to hand over this PC to those guys with all my personal info displayed right there on the start screen! The W3 synced with my other windos 8 PC's and has my email, contact lists, people tiles with all my grandkids and even the Ancestry Windows 8 app that lists the names birthdates and pictures of over 300 family members. Even many of their SS numbers.

Were this a desktop I would do a secure level 6 wipe of the HD.

Obviously, the AC adapter hasn't arrived yet. Sunday is the only opertunity I will have to take this back before the 15 day warrenty at the store expires.

What can I do to this tablet that will insure everything is wiped in just a couple minutes?

You can always try a windows 8 Reset from getting into Change PC Settings and selecting Remove everything and reinstall. I've heard the 64gb version has a recovery partition to wipe to factory but the last I heard from Acer support, none of the w3s do, meaning you'll need a recovery disk. Either way, you might want to give it a shot... It'll tell you you can't if there's no recovery partition.

And I'm not sure if 15% battery will be enough but that can get quite far on a w3 (hope it doesn't tell you to plug in the adapter). Also you probably already know that this is not a real HD wipe since you'll need to boot up from some software on an USB drive, or win 8 disk/usb/command line to do it and they're gonna take some time.....

The problem with that is I don't have an adapter for a usb stick that fits the w3.

so far I came up with:

1 add a dummy user and switch users then delete my user.

2 plug in a portable 240 Gig external HD that does fit w3's usb, but it draws a lot of power from USB

3 try a restore point but that does not remove my account and it would just resync

4 remove the 4 digit login and change the password to somehing real long and random but that is done on the web and changes all my remote logins.

5 use the Manage function to delete or format drive c, (not sure if win 8 will let me do that)

Any other sugestions?

hey good one. the creating a new admin account and deleting your old one trick should do, not like you really need a clean restore (some software you installed and confign files will still be there of course). then use something like ccleaner and secure wipe the free space.

and THEN add a random password to the new account (but if they access your hd directly, it wouldn't matter anyway) and turn on bitlocker if you deem it necessary as well?

hope the store return works out man. don't give up and plant your feet! they screwed up!

I cannot get the power supply that cam with my Iconia w3-810 to fit into the device anymore. I don't want to force it but is seems just a hair too big? Is there an aftermarket one that might be a little bit smaller?
