Hi everyone!  Just wanted to let peeps out there know that there are cheap keyboard cases that work great with the W3. Not sure if it’s already been posted but I didn’t see any with a search.  I wanted a wired keyboard (I’m a little paranoid that going to meetings with dead batteries in a keyboard will spell doom) that doubles as a case and in a compact form factor since our W3s are just so small.  Anyway, long story short, got a generic 7” Android keyboard case off the bay for peanuts ($12), replaced the full size USB male port to a micro USB port, and did some minor tweaks; now I’m happy as a clam.

Here’s the link if anyone is interested (not affiliated with seller!):

The keyboard case is quoted to be 22.5 x 14 cm and it looks like a perfect fit.  So if you’re looking for something else, maybe make sure it doesn’t get too much smaller?  And note that there is a “zzz” button on the keyboard.  This actually works as a Window key when plugged into our Win machines.  Guess it’s a sleep/power button on Android.

Overall, the keyboard works, but keys are a little cramped as expected and don’t have a great bounce since it’s not exactly high end. The case has a nice soft faux leather finish though.  I just wish Acer made a keyboard dock that doesn’t raise eyebrows when it looks like I’m walking around carrying a keyboard.

(Works out of the box with a USB-to-micro-USB adapter but I wanted a custom fit so some tweaks I did:
- Took out the USB cable sleeve thing stitched to the joint of the case so I can move the two brackets on the bottom down just a little (not actually needed but I wanted a better fit when closed)
- Replaced USB connector with micro USB (striped completely from another cable), glue gunned to form shape and added that sleeve thing I took out from above to cover the ugly glue… not the prettiest since I had to take the fabric off after a wire went loose and reapply
- Added some thin non-slip rubber pads on the three hooks/mounts so the tablet doesn't slip out... it's quite slippery as it is)
