Sound Dampened on Left Side

I'm running Windows Vista 64 bit, Acer Aspire 5735-6694. This morning I found that the sound was inexplicably dampened on the left side of my speakers. First I thought I was going deaf in the left ear or it was the speakers so I swapped out my headphones and found that whichever ear I put the right headphone up to, the sound was significantly louder/stronger than the left side.

The input jack isn't loose, there haven't been any changes in the last 24 hours which could account for this, either. I restarted but am still having the problem. Any suggestions?

I guess I should have just went ahead and tried to reinstall the device drivers before I posted here because that worked like a charm. Not only did it fix the mix/dampening issue but there used to be a very short delay when plugging a 1/8th inch cable into the input jack before the sound would come through whatever speakers I had just attached; now it's immediate which is preferable.

At least someone else might see this and give that a shot if they're having any kind of sound issues before they post here, thanks everyone!
