Hi,

The original WD 320 Gb has died in my old Acer 6935g, I've bought  WD7500BPKX 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236561) for replacement. But with that drive the laptop started rebooting after different periods of time. The question  - is this capacity supported? Googling the problem found information that only 500Gb  is supported. Maybe it is connected with power consuming too, but first I would like be sure that HDD controller supports this drive.

Thanks in advance

I can tell you that we shipped that system with 120 GB to 320 GB HDDs.

The system chipset is Mobile Intel® GM975/PM975 Express Chipset.

Unfortunately, due to the age of the system, that is all the information that I have.

I do not see that we have tested any additional hard drives in the system.

Thanks a lot for your help, Acer-Tommy. The problem with rebooting was connected with south bridge fault  - I had to change motherboard to make it work.

Maybe my story will be useful for somebody else : the problem arose when laptop started randomly rebooting. I tried to use scandisk and found that during checking structure of 320GB disk (that was initially installed) scandisk hangs. Strangely enough that laptop worked stable when I booted using USB drive with WinXP image. I updated BIOS but it did not help.  Unfortunately, that time I did not check 320 GB disk with more advanced tool like Viktoriya (booting from USB drive)  and bought new 700GB disk. When I tried to use new disk laptop started rebooting more frequently, just after turning on. That time I checked 320GB disk using Viktorya and found that it is in good condition - SMART does not show any sign of surface degradation. The problem seems to be in south bridge  - when I bought new motherboard and installed it laptop started working fine. Unfortunatley, I already returned new 700GB disk and can't check if it is supported.
