Hi everyone,

As in the subject, my Acer which I have just purchased in future shop 4 days ago already have some issues. While I was doing work (power cord plugged), it just shut down. There is no signal, no flash or led. It is like it was dead from a fatal strokes.

I've tried to contact the Acer support and they told me to send it in for repair.

Anyone knows any good solution for this one without having to send it to Acer. And is this kind of issues happenes to S7 often?

Thanks in advanced,

I just experienced the same thing.  My Aspire S7 (about 2 months old) just shut off while plugged in, shows no indicator lights, and will not turn on again.  It did not "shut down"...it simply and instantly turned off.

Please message me if you have figured out a solution other than sending to Acer.

If you are unable to power the system from either battery or adapter, you need to contact service.

I haven't yet had that problem when mine is plugged in, though it does exactly what dc87 described when it is battery only.  I've also noticed that the battery light frequently turns off briefly and randomly when it is plugged in.  From everything that I've read on various fora, these sudden turn-offs are a big problem with all S7s.  Really wish I'd know that before I bought this. :-(

I have had the same experieince.  After trying everything suggested online and by Acer support services over the phone I took my one month old machine to the local Acer repair center yesterday.  Today they told me they are going to have to replace the motherboard.  Hopefully this one will last longer than one month.  Appears to be a general problem here that I hope Acer is paying attention to and doing something about.

    Hi,

I have just bought the fantastic Acer Aspire S7 392. It is an amazing bit of kit. However it does have a rather important fault - it shuts down without warning when on battery. It happens all the time. Is there a fix I can apply or must I return it to ACER.

Great item. Shame about the serious fault. There is a great deal of information on this specific fault on the internet but I was hoping you would be able to give quick and clear advice.

    best regards

    Chris

The article posted by Acer-Tommy above refers to a fix that has worked for me.

In my case it was not enough simply to tighten the screws - it kept shutting off when I did that.  I had to undo screws and then re-tighten them all the way.  I haven't had an unexpected shutdown since I did that.

Would doing that invalidate the warranty? Perhaps Acer-Tommy might known?

Please review the article linked previously in this thread.

It does not invalidate any warranty to tighten screws.

Thanks so much for the tip about tightening the screws on the back. This was a crazy frustrating problem for me for the last few days! My Acer Aspire s7-392 is only a month old and it suddenly started randomly shutting off on me while I was in the middle of using it on battery. It was downright annoying and inconvenient. The Acer support people I spoke with over the phone had me try resetting the battery first using the little hole on the bottom and then even had me do a complete system restore which led me back to having to reupdate to Windows 8.1 and redownload all my applications!! Then they wanted to charge ME for shipping to send it in for service until I nearly had a panic attack on the phone with the guy telling him I just spent $1400 on this thing one month ago and of course was barely over the 30-day mark to return it to Amazon or I would've just done that! They ended up offering me the shipping free after that battle, but I'm so happy I found this forum or I would've ended up shipping it out tomorrow and been out of commission for at least a week.

I have to wonder though...why was that screw loose already? How many times is this going to happen to me? Acer, that safety feature is WAY too sensitive!

Regardless, YAY! I've been unplugged for 30 minutes now and it hasn't shut off on me!

Same problem ! It has been only a week since I bought. No matter pluged in or on battery, it shuts down and not opening again. After closing the cover and push power the button sometimes it opens but not work everytime. Once managed to upgrade the bios to 2.09. No use. Tighting the battery screw,  Remove all windows 8.1 updates. Such a big disappoinment with ACER. Very nice design but such a big problem. Sending ACER center hoping their tech support resolve the problem.
