I wanted to upgrade my  Aspire 5542-1462 memory from 4GB to 8GB, but I was told that since my  Aspire 5542-1462 has two memory slots with 2GB cards each and the PC can only handle 4GB , my PC is not memory upgradeable to 8gb is this true ? And how can I upgrade the RAM or HARD DRIVE if possible  , thank you in advance     http://www.cnet.com/laptops/acer-aspire-5542-1462/4505-3121_7-33895355.html < with 2 memory slots

I am afraid that it looks as though you are correct, at least as far as I can tell from my (quick) research.  The alternative is to reduce the amount of memory that the operating system is using, including the essential utility programs (like antivirus/anti-spyware), stopping programs and services running in the background that you don't need and so on.  There is plenty of information on the internet on optimizing Windows.

    Good luck!
