Aspire V5-551 headphone recognition issue

Hi everyone! I was hoping I could get some help with this here.

I've just set up my new Aspire (V5-551); it's running Windows 8 and there's nothing really out of the ordinary with it. Everything's been working fine but when I plug my headphones in to the headphone jack, the computer/audio manager doesn't recognise that I've done so.

It doesn't appear to be the same issue as other people have posted because I can get sound just fine out of both speakers and headphones when I choose, but whenever the headphones are playing sound the device still shows up as 'speaker' in the playback devices section.

I can kind of live with it, but I have blasted my eardrums from switching back and forth and forgetting to change the vol levels!

I've disabled and reenabled all the audio devices under device manager, reinstalled and updated all my audio drivers, checked the hardware (I don't have this issue on my Asus laptop) and I can't find any other topics with a similar problem.

Thanks for slogging through this mess of a 'question' and hopefully I can fix this eventually Smiley Happy

    What kind of headphones?

What connector do the headphones use?

Is it inserted completely into the port/jack?

What changes in Device Manager when you plug the headphones in?

My headphones are JVC HA-M750 with a 3.5mm connector and it's connected flush to the port when I put it in.

I can't see anything changing in the device manager or audio mixer windows, but the sound still works.
