I have an Acer Iconia W500 tablet, which I bought used from an Ebay seller. The woman who sold it to me had rarely used it and claimed she had had no problems with it. However, after I got it and started using it regularly, I noticed a peculiar problem. The pointer would be drawn like a magnet to the lower right hand corner of the screen and subsequently cause the "show desktop" button to be depressed again and again. As a result the screen would flash incessantly. This would happen whether I was using my stylus or my mouse. It also seemed to happen no matter what I was doing -- surfing, reading email, paying a bill online -- it didn't seem to matter. Obviously, this is VERY annoying.
Some Internet research showed me I am not the only one with this dilemma. From the Acer website, I got the instructions to download and install the Touch Screen firmware update. I did so, making sure I was downloading the correct one for the Iconia W500. When I double-clicked on the .exe file to install, I got a message that this firmware was for the W500. So far so good. However, instead of installing and fixing my problem, the next message I got was an error message about a "load error" and to double-check that I had the right updater and to try again. I have tried again -- several times with the same disappointing results. I also re-downloaded the firmware files just in case they had somehow been corrupted. I have tried the installation process online, offline, with anti-virus, firewall, and system restore turned off and turned on. Nothing seems to work. I am not on a network and am using a dial-up connection. The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1.
Please advise. I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks in advance. Please help! I don't know what to do.
