A client of mine brought me an Acer Aspire 6930. He stated he was looking at internet porn and he got a message that he needed to pay $300.00 to unlock his PC and it shut down on him (refer to ICE virus?). When I tried to bring the laptop up I got nothing on the screen at all indicating life. But the drives are spinning. I tried to boot from a Windows XP disc and still nothing on the screen. I tried FN+F3, FN+F5 and FN+F6 all to no vail. I tried routing the video through an HDMI cable and repeating the steps and received a 'no signal' on the external monitor and I tried the same process utilizing a VGA cable to the external monitor and still 'no signal'. I have tried to flash the bios with a modded one since I do not know how to seprate the exe from the bios using hex editor by insertng the usb flash drive and pressing the FN+ESC keys then the power button and holding the FN+ESC keys for the additional 5 seconds. I am now completely at a loss and could really use some help.

Thanks

Definitely one of our better posts.

I'm sure you already told your client to upgrade his anti-virus software and stay off porn sites.

I'm guessing the latest BIOS flash must have worked. This morning the laptop fell off the desktop PC I had it sitting on and when I hit power all systems were go Smiley Happy

Yes, I did all that for him. I installed Hitman Pro and updated his Avast. Ran safe mode scan with each, got rid of the ICE virus with Hitman pro and then proceeded to run a boot time time scan with each. He is well protected now and he was told to whack carefully and more selectively. Smiley Happy Thanks.
