Hi

I have acer aspire 5742 notebook. Its been working fine for last one whole year but today when I turned it on it gives me following message

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM

No bootable device

I check BIOS settings, So I found that on main page its not showing my HDD, no model/ serial no. My SATA mode is set to 'ACHI Mode' but when I change is to IDE mode it shows my HDD as Toshiba and serial no. too.

During an attempt to reinstall window 7, at partition selection it say your HDD in not recognised in BIOS and window cant be installed, although I was able to delet old partition and creat new one. So I have no OS on HDD

But if I change my SATA mode to IDE, BIOS detects my HDD but it failed to boot from my CD for Win installation. Do anyone have any idea what this all about. Is my HDD is faulty or there is somthing with my BIOS
