Accelerometer on Iconia A501

Hi all. I have the Iconia A501 and for a while now my phones auto rotation hasnt been working. I tried moving the button on the top a few times and it shows on the screen whaen its "on" and "off" but it doesnt rotate. I can however manipulate it by opening certain app that will rotate the screen to the prefered way of using it for the app. I have downloaded one of the sensor apps to check which axis isnt working. According to the app it is the x axis.  My tablet is our of warrantee already and Im in South Africa. I canno find a repair agent anywhere near me though. Is there a way I can fix this myself or is it too complicated? Would a factory reset work? (I doubt it though, but just wndering).

If a sensor is malfunctioning, I would also doubt that a reset would alleviate the problem.
