Why am I forced to use Windows 8

If it was for me, I would feed my W511 to the dog! Following the instructions in the official Acer video, I accessed the BIOS setup, where I had to realise that "Secure Boot" cannot be disabled.

 

First of all: The term "Secure Boot" is deliberate false advertising, It doesn't make the boot process any way safer. The only security it gives is security to Micro$oft from unwanted competitors. Why can these fraudulent customer lock-ins not be disabled. Why am I defrauded off my rights as a customer?

 

Here my question: When will Acer provide a firmware update that removes these unlawful lock-ins?

First, you cannot just turn off the "Secure Boot", you also have to erase the library, There are a number of threads on this.

 

Second, the reason is not Acer or Microsoft, it is Intel. The Clover Trail chipset is designed for a ventless/fanless case (why it can run for 7 hours) but requires power management to prevent overheating and that exists on in Windows 8 at the moment.
