I also have that problem.  I only found out about the bios upgrade option, after replacing my battery.

New battery has the same problem.

However I have tried the option to press Ctl+Fn+ start (flash on USB Flash dirve)

and that did not change the Bios listing.

My BIOS IS LISTED AS :  0.3114 both before and after the flashing.

SMB BIOS :is listed as 2.4 (what ever that is) ?

From the command prompt I tried to exicute the 3110.bat file and still

(supplied with most current download from ACER) nothing changed !

Flash should be updated to 3309 or later but does not change (text file with download) !

The above two options are the only ones given with the downloaded zipped file.

Windows XP

Where are you getting information that indicates you can flash the BIOS on your system from a USB flash drive?

    1. Be on AC Power
    2. Boot into Windows
    3. Run the file InsydeFlash.exe
    4. Click "start"

That is all that is required to flash the BIOS.

Per Acer instructions, I was on AC power.  The BIOS does not flash.  It may be that my CMOS Battery is dead.  I saw on the internet that the  Acer BIOS (even after being Flashed) will revert to the factory settings if is there is no battery power.

I can't disassemble the unit so I have it in for service and replacement of the CMOS Battery.  They will then Flash the BIOS using the USB Flash drive set up per Acer instructions.

If this works, I will post it here !

What are you seeing?  What is on the screen?

We're going to need more than, "BIOS doesn't flash" in order to assist.

You've got it "in for service", but presumably not at an Acer service center, as they are going to attempt to flash "with Acer instructions".  Wouldn't it have been simpler to just send it in for Acer service to fix any issues?

Answer Found:  I donwloaded a newer version than the one from a whle back.  I tried the boot with USB Drive and actuating the two buttons and it did not work, Then I tried the DOS option for flashing the BIOS, still nothing happened.

With the new download came an Executable file that runs under Windows XP and that worked.

It is odd that the old and new versions did not work using the instructions from the ACER web pages and that there was nothing saying any thing about this (exe) file.  I only found it by trying to see what else was on the download 1
