W700 - Boot to Safe Mode w/o keyboard

I am having some serious issues.

I have a W700 that has been working well for a while now. (minus the known BT issues)

I loaded windows 8.1 a few weeks ago and even had that working well.

So......

I purchased a Belkin Windows 8 dock

MISTAKE.

It appears that my video drivers got messed up somehow (as I'm now what appears to be in VGA mode).  The big problem is that I get the Windows 8 BSOD (system_thread_exception_not_handled)

I can get to a command prompt in recovery, but I can't boot to safe mode as it wants me to hit "4" to do so.  The BT keyboard isn't recognized and I've tried two usb keyboards and neither of them get recognized either.

System restore point failed.  System recovery failed.  XXXX failed.  etc, etc

Is there any way to boot straight to safe mode w/o having to hit any keys on a keyboard.
