x213w Monitor doesnt work in DVI Cable - Known Issue

I have had my Acer x213w monitor for several years, works great on VGA Connector.  If I swap to a DVI output from video card, doesnt work.  Googling, seems a LOT of people have same issue.

What can be done to swap this out or repair it.

If I swap cable from Monitor (Acer) to a Dell 22 it works fine.  Swap back and it doesnt work.

One thing I noticed is the manual states you need a DVI-D cable, which has I think 27 pins vs the 18 on a normal dvi cable.  Can Acer confirm this is required?  This would be an odd requirement from the DVI standard.

Others have this issue - please address ACER.

I would indeed trust exactly what the manual states that you need to operate the monitor properly.

The "DVI standard" has multiple types of connector.

From Wikipedia entry, Digital Visual Interface:

The DVI connector on a device is therefore given one of three names, depending on which signals it implements:

    • DVI-D (digital only, single-link or dual-link)
    • DVI-A (analog only)
    • DVI-I (integrated, combines digital and analog in the same connector; digital may be single- or dual-link)

There is an excellant picture of the different connectors on the Wikipedia article as well.
