DDR3 RAM (Kingston Value RAM) not being recognised in Acer Veriton S680g

Hi

System Specification:

Acer Veriton S680g

Intel Core I5 - 650

Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit

I have done some research and bought the Kingston Value Ram - KVR13N9S8K2/8 (see product sheet here)

From what I gather it is aligned to the specification page of the desktop:

PC3-10600, CL9, 240 Pin, DIMM

However when loading one module of the kit, I am able to boot but get an IRQ BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) in Windows 7. When I load both together it doesn't go past the ACER screen. Can someone advise, as I can't seem to even see the frequency and voltages in the BIOS to determine what the incompatibility is.

I was thinking of upgrading the BIOS, but if anyone is aware of other settings that need to be looked at please let me know.

I have exactly the same issue. Anyone know of a fix? The spec sheets says it can hadle 4BG ram but no luck so far.

download cpuz:

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

start you system normally and run cpuz, selecting the memory tab to read memory voltage and check if it matchs the new ram voltage.

Thanks IronFly, I installed cpu-z and checked the voltages. They match what I already have.

I'm wondering if it's a BIOS issue. But I'm very new to PC's so I'm just shooting in the dark.

Have you tried to take off the old ram and try to boot only with the new one?

if it can't boot, it's a compatibility issue for sure.

with CPUz, you can check CAS latency and frequency too.

I tried with:

The old RAM and new
Swapped the RAM around
With just 1 new stick
With just 2 new sticks

It would just get to the Acer boot screen and hang. Couldn't even boot into BIOS.

not compatible ram.

i don't know what's wrong but if it can't boot, it's a ram problem.

I found the problem. The Acer Veriton S680G takes PC3-12800 RAM Compliant RAM. Not the PC3-10600 I got. Will try again in a few weeks.
