Acer A210 question re e-mail

I have just bought an Acer Iconia A210 tab.  My broadband at home is via o2 and e-mail provided on the tab works fine.  However, when I am away I use wi fi via Three network.  I obtained the outgoing server from Three which is smtp-mbb.three.co.uk which works fine on my Advent laptop.  However on the tab I can only receive e-mails not send.  I spent ages on a premium line to Three who could not understand why their server info did not work.  If there is all this trouble with server info how on earth does it work if you use a public wi fi for instance in a cafe?  Can anyone help me with regard to using three as both three and o2 say it is the fault of the set up of the tab.

A fair number of internet providers block SMTP traffic for anywhere other than their servers. It drops botnet traffic significantly. If that's the case where you are connecting then you'll need to see if your email provider supports nonstandard SMTP ports and reconfigure to use one instead of the normal ports.
