It doesn't recognize the optical mouse that came with it, should it have a usb reciever?

I got it yesterday. I bought it with the emachine class action cupons. It didn't include a usb reciever, but it may not need one? I have done an install a new device search. It didn't find it. This is also my first time with windows 8 so I may be missing something?

The Users Guide makes no mention of a mouse. It comes with a built in keyboard and touchpad.

A wireless mouse generally needs a USB receiver. The mouse may have been included by the refurbishers. Re-check the packaging. You could be looking for a small button with a USB connection.

(Do you have batteries in the mouse?)

The included mouse is a Bluetooth mouse. It does NOT need a receiver because bluetooth is already built-in to the laptop. On a non-refurbished S7, the pairing is done at the factory and you do not need to do anything other than switch the mouse on. I guess as part of the refurb, the image is re-installed on the SSD and the pairing has not been done. You should be able to get it working by double clicking the little bluetooth logo in the icon tray (Assuming bluetooth is switched on) and pair it yourself.

Thanks, Jonstatt, I thought it may be bluetooth. I found it and it say's that it is working properly even though it doesn't. I uinstalled it then reinstalled but it still isn't working. I tried searching for better drivers and it claimed that it has the best one. Any more ideas?

When you say you uninstalled and reinstalled...do you mean you uninstalled the Bluetooth driver. Or you removed the Bluetooth pairing for the mouse and then repaired the mouse? I don't know how you put the mouse in pairing mode....it might be something like holding a mouse button down while switching it on and then searching for it on the laptop with a Bluetooth search.

Ah well done! Happy to hear it works. Be careful with that mouse...the plastic is very fragile and can crack if you drop it.
