Aspire Z5801 crapped out?

Had a youtube video running full screen, sound went garbled. Video went pixelated, shifty and mostly black.

Couldn't even reduce screen with escape button.

Held on button for to shut computer off.

Now when on button is pressed not much happens, screen stays black and not much noise other than fan.

Have unplugged and left computer alone for awhile and attempted to restart.

Any other ideas?

If your computer is 5 year old or older, there is a good possibility the CMOS (system) battery needs to be replaced.

If you do a search on cmos battery, you should see an artilce titled "How to Check the CMOS Battery" which should be helpful.  In less techie terms it is referred to as the system battery.  It is a disk-shaped battery about the size and thickness of an American quarter.  Without it, or with a dead one, even though your system may have external power, it doesn't know what to do so it does nothing.
